We deepen knowledge and generate interest in new governance for climate action.
The Future of Climate Cooperation played a key role in ensuring that the Declaration on Future Generations was adopted as an annex to the Pact for the Future during the Summit for the Future in New York in September 2024. This declaration is already helping to accelerate implementation of the global sustainability goals. It has re-energized the future generations agenda by formally recognising the role of future generations in decision making. In addition, the declaration identifies key actions to upgrade global governance.
Created alongside the Paris Agreement in 2015, the UN High-level Climate Champions are appointed by each COP host tasked to mobilize action toward the goals of the Paris Agreement from business, cities, states/regions, investors, and across society as a whole. We helped convene actors and experts across the climate action ecosystem to review and refine the mandate of Champions in both 2019 and 2024, when their mandate needed renewal by the Parties to the UNFCCC.
The Future Climate Cooperation played a key role in redesigning the ISO London Declaration in 2021, outlining reforms to key standards that would align them with the goals of the Paris Agreement. Standards affect almost every aspect of the economy. By adopting the ISO net zero guidelines, some of the member countries developed stronger national regulations.
